Exclamation Blank page - and doesn't accept my root password.

Hi guys, I just installed my brand spanking new cPanel onto my debian i686 server.

Was very excited to get it finally, and didn't mind waiting the odd 4 or so hours it took to install.

As this was an existing server beforehand, there were of course some files already on the server. My colo admin recommended I stop apache, mysql etc. and backup the files before installing cPanel.

I did so, and let the install run. It ran, and when it was done I went to http://hosting.uberskilled.com:2082 (just an host that points to one of my ips) and tried my luck.

It says to use my servers root password, with the username 'root'. I tried multiple times to no avail. I know my root password, and it won't accept it.

I tried again with other users. It's simply a blank page for normal users. No side panel, nothing.

It does however redirect to http://hosting.uberskilled.com:2082/...d/x/index.html, which from past cPanel expirence I know is correct.

I've tried it with a few of the different ips I own, along with the main server ip, still to no avail.

I tried doing a forced update, didn't work.

I tried using the adduser command from the /scripts/ dir and logging in with that username. Still a blank page when I try to log in, although that account can ssh in fine.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Also, I've searched the forums already, seen this question quite a few times with a lack of answers .

Hopefully that'll change this time round .

Thanks in advance guys and girls,

/Whitey - UberSkilled.com Admin

Have you tried logging into the WHM at port 2087? That's the admin section where you use the root password. As far as I know, you *can't* login to cPanel itself using root info, which is what port 2082 is...

"Connection refused"

I also found out I had some very odd processes running...

root 14755 0.0 0.2 2208 1040 ? S 17:52 0:00 /USR/SBIN/CRON
matt 14757 0.0 0.3 4752 1616 ? S 17:52 0:00 /usr/sbin/sendmail -i -FCronDaemon -oem matt

matt 15043 0.0 0.3 4744 1624 ? S 17:54 0:00 /usr/sbin/postdrop -r

I realised the problem was that cron and mail, which I already have installed and didn't think about stopping, are having some sort of problem running.

I believe cPanel would be the problem, but to be honest, I don't know how to kill mail and cron. Also, if I kill them, would cPanel's (presumably) built in cron and mail kick in? I'd presume that's why they're not working.

This was getting my load averages up to 350, so it's pretty urgent.

EDIT:
Alright, I killed the main cron process, and chmodded the mail script to 700 - hopefully that'll stop it... In the mean time, I still need help with the whole cPanel thing :P.

Thanks guy,

/Whitey

I just had a thought as I was logging onto web host manager on my friends server - trying http://hosting.uberskilled.com:2086.

The login box came up and I tried my user account. It didn't work, which can be expected I guess as it's not set up to be a reseller yet.

I tried the root password and it worked

So I'm going to give this a try - *crosses fingers*.
