bulletin board installation problem

I'm new as an administrator of cpanelx. I attempted to set up a bulletin board and all seemed to go great. I received the following:
phpBB 2.0.13 Setup
We are installing in /home/sleepycr/public_html/bboard...
The Install is done!
You can access your new phpBB forum at: http://sleepycreek.org/bboard/
However, when I insert the above into MSIE I get the following:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in /home/sleepycr/public_html/bboard/db/mysql4.php on line 48

How do I interpret this error notice into something useful? And how do I get the board working on my site?

Seems like MySQL is not installed (properly) on your server.
Contact your hosting provider: they have to install MySQL extensions (not included anymore as standard in PHP 5)
