Default can't delete/rename files and directories

Sounds bizar, but I can't perform simple file operations on one particular cpanel (11) account through the file manager. I am running web host manager on a virtual dedicated server, set up several accounts, all with cpanel, and one seems to be a bit stubborn . In fact, the limitation only applies to some subdirectories. I can't even change permissions on those directories and get the following error message: FileOp Failure on:... Operation not permitted.

What could be the reason for this behavior? What do I have to change?

    Many thanks,
    Matthias

Ok, found it: ownership of directories and files was set to nobody... Now, how does that happen if I do all file/folder operations through cpanel?

Were the files/directories maintained by or created by PHP or CGI scripts? If you are not running SuPHP and SuExec, that's how that can happen.

    I'm having the same problem.

How did you change the ownership of the directories and files?

Do I have to use shell or can I do it through the file manager somehow.

I'm a little rusty on my basic linux commands.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

you can't change ownership from file manager change it from shell. Use following command to change the owernship of all files and folders recursively located under public_html folder.

    cd public_html
    chown username.username * -R
in above command replace username by your cpanel username.
