Centos 5.3 Cpanel Just Won't Install - Help

I must be doing something fundamentally stupid here.

I have a spare PC in the office, which I wanted to run in demo mode, so i can test a CSF installation. So... I burn the Centos Net Install CD, download the 5.3 distro files and put them on my local http server in the office.

I install Centos 5.3 without any probs, linux text, giving it an IP 192.168.0.201 (it's behind my adsl router) choosing a custom build, and choosing only "Base" and "Development Tools".

All installs fine and dandy... and I then SSH onto the box from another machine in the office, and do the basic cpanel installation. Unfortunately it was still going last night, and I had to kill the SSH session so i didn't see what happened, but just like when I tried several times in the past it fails to work... It activates my license ok, but nothing answers on port 2087...

Any ideas?

I should add that I did alter /etc/selinux/config as follows

SELINUX=disabled

and then did

setenforce 0

and cat /selinux/enforce to ensure it was indeed disabled.

I then

service iptables stop
iptables -L -n (to be sure)

Then I just wget'd the latest scripts into my setup path, and ran the latest script...

I did have a hostname set up, which corresponded to my dynamic IP address hostname on my adsl router (i set up 2087 and 2086 to port forward from my router to the linux box)

Why are you disabling SELINUX? You can't install Cpanel if you do that!

Also, I am not understanding the following:

You don't need to setup Cpanel if all you want is CSF running.

(Puzzled ????)

Plus it is very simple to configure CSF and it has a test mode
so you can play around with the settings on a live system without
getting yourself into too much trouble.

Why are you disabling SELINUX? You can't install Cpanel if you do that!

Leaving SELinux enabled causes issues when folks try to login to cPanel/WHM for the first time. We officially recommend disabling SELinux prior to installing cPanel/WHM.

One can successfully install cPanel/WHM with SELinux disabled, I did it myself just a few weeks ago.

To the original poster - since your CentOS net install ran successfully, I'm assuming things are working well with your network connectivity. You can try running /scripts/upcp --force to see if that resolves the issue, but I recommend letting our technical analysts assist you with determining if the installation completed successfully or not.

It all went well this time, thanks! All of the tutorials I have seen regarding installing Centos seem to be for an older version... in the end i just installed the Base and Development tools in the Centos 5.3 install.

I'm not sure why it never worked previously... maybe I just did something stupid previously - I have been learning a great deal in the past few months, so perhaps/probably I am to blame.

I'm now happily looking at a working WHM install

I wanted to install CSF with WHM to ensure I could basically do it without messing up WHM... I know CSF runs standalone... I'm still learning, so wanted to install it onto a WHM setup in test before I did it on my production boxes.

It's all a bit academic, as I have since installed BFD alongside APF, and frankly this seems more than adequate... the CSF browser interface looks nice in WHM, but I prefer the power of directly editing the config files myself... and it's good practice in learning my way around vi ;-)
