connecting to a server using ssh

I'm a "newbie", too, but I've used WinSCP from http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/index.php -- it has a GUI interface which for me is easier than using putty for what I've needed to do.

you still have to run the "command line" to excute commands though but pretty easy for noobies on editing and navigating the directory structure.
