For customers w/static IP, have Exim/SMTP use that IP for sending

It would be nice if it was configurable or just automatic that if a customer has a static IP, that IP would be used for sending out e-mail.

A common case we see where using just the main IP of the server for delivery is if there is a local spam break out. Say a user's e-mail account gets compromised and it is used to send 10s of thousands of spams. Currently, this results in the entire server getting black listed.

If it was configurable, or just 'automatic' for customers with static IPs to have their mail delivered off their IP, then the impact of this kind of thing would be more limited and in particular, customers who pay extra to have a static IP would not be affected by a spam outbreak from one of the domains of the majority of customers who use shared IP.

Possibly this is just no doable with Exim?

It looks like cPanel does not automatically populate /etc/mailips and /etc/mail_reverse_dns. Is there a reason this is not done (to avoid nasty side effects or something) ?

I'm a bit leery of using this the way it is. If we have to manually update those files because we'll end up with stale information floating around when accounts are terminated.

To automatically populate the files mailips, mailhelo, and mail_reverse_dns, please ensure to use the "Automatic" option as detailed below:

Why isnt cpanel automatically creates the appropriate entry in the following file so we DO NOT have to manually edit them? That is too much of a hassle for customers

The automatic option should maintain the two aforementioned files without manual intervention; if you're experiencing difficulty with this option please submit a support request so that we may assist with investigating the issue.
