    Question DNS only questions

    Hi,

I need to move accounts from one server to another, but IPs will change and name servers, and I am afraid to have websites going down. Reading for hours here and found some good reviews about the DNS only server, will this allow me to have the websites moved to the other server without going down and to make sure that email will not get bounced as undeliverable?

Will DNS only make sure email will be delivered later on or can I use the DNS only as a second MX as well?

Another question I have is that: how to solve the problem with customers who have their domains elsewhere and are using A and MX records who point to our hosting?

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Nick.

If both servers use version 11.23 or later, use the Express Transfer option. This will minimize downtime caused by DNS issues by having the DNS records on the old server pointing to the new server on which the account resides.

Thanks yes both server will run with that version in release mode, I can't find this option however ( Express transfer option.)

Could you please confirm that DNS only server will do help to keep things going?

What about those A and MX records?

    kind regards,

Well, if both servers were part of the same cPanel DNS cluster, that would also work.

Express Transfer is available by checking "Point Account on Source Server to New Server" on the transfer account screen.

    Hi David,

I used your 'express transfer' function, it works great, but i have a small problem after it.

Copy an account from another server creates an problem in the .htaccess file by adding an extra row with a redirect in it.

It works all perfect without this extra redirection, can you tell me how i can avoid to get this extra row added in the .htaccess file? Before I start to transfer all my accounts....

    Thanks.

cool to see this new feature. great indeed!

but will it work for normal account rather than root access in old server? let me explain:
i have a shared hosting on a server. i bought a dedicated/vps with root. now if I want to transfer the site from shared hosting, will ""Point Account on Source Server to New Server" work?. I think it will change the DNS on the old server. but as shared account i don't have root access and access to change dns. so still will it occur?

    thanks

    rajuru:

Are you trying to use this method?
Main >> Transfers >> Copy an account from another server with account password

That one doesn't have the option to "Point Account on Source Server to New Server"

My assumption would be then that you might be using 'su' or 'sudo' please indicate which of those scenarios are you dealing with.

    Thank you in advance.

I only need to know how to get rid that extra row in .htaccess on old server.

I have no clue why cPanel adds it, it breaks the thing, if you change the pointers, why a rewrite rule??

We get the internal server error caused by the line in .htaccess as well.

We are using phpsuexec (SU as you mention). Any solution?

    Hi,

If you use the option to point on old server to new, then you might get that error, best thing is to go to old server ( account ) and delete the row which has been added by cPanel, you will recognise it.

Imoh it's useless that cPanel add that row as the dns zones are pointing to new server ;-)

So go to old account and delete the row in the .htaccess added by cPanel.

    Hope that helps you.
