Unhappy DNS servers on the same machine as VPS?

    Hi

cPanel/WHM newbie question: I have a new VPS hosting package, and my host recommends creating new private nameservers ('vanity' nameservers) using the two IPs of my VPS server. They say this is essential for using the nice DNS tools etc in cPanel. Then I should change my domains to use the new nameservers.

Now I'm no expert on such things, but I do know the potential problems caused by having both DNS servers on the same box, especially the same box as the hosting (poisoned DNS cache if the box goes down, etc).

I'd like to stick with my registrar's nameservers and use A records to point domains to my VPS, but the host says this won't work.

Are 'private' nameservers essential to work with cPanel? I don't like it!

    Thanks!

For cPanel/WHM to manage your DNS, you must use the DNS servers on that VPS or set up a DNS cluster with cPanel DNS Only.
