    Default DNSOnly Server Spec

I'm looking to modify my servers so that each nameserver is on an independent server to add resilancy etc.

Dc 1 - will contain a low spec server running ns1
Dc 2 - will contain a low spec server running ns2
Dc 3 - will contain UK based "full" cpanel servers
Dc 4 - will contain USA based "full" cpanel servers

    Does that sound sensible/feasible?

What would be the minimum spec for such a server?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

DNS servers can be very low spec indeed. You don't need a powerful CPU, nor do you need much memory or disk space. The DNS protocol and the applications that run it have not changed in decades and so server requirements these days are negligible - go for as cheap as you want (though of course, you'd want them to be hardware reliable, though with a distributed DNS structure, one server being down for a period of time isn't much of a problem). Indeed, the most important aspect is probably a fast reliable internet connection so that queries are answered in a timely manner, so maybe looking for a fast datacenter with good pipes is the first thing to consider.

Thanks for that, it was what I was thinking.

I've been running a low spec server with another control panel so I can run php5/apach2 for some developer clients. I may use that, reformatted, as one server and I have another lined up too.
