emails from cPanel server

Hello:
In Basic cPanel & WHM Setup - Contact Information, I specified my email address. I have never received an email from the cPanel server. I have created new users, restarted services, changed nameservers, and I thought these were reasons for me to be notified. Am I supposed to be notified or not? How can I verify if the server is able to send me an email if any problem arises?
