Default Error from park wrapper: Invalid domain [test]

I am getting the following error when I try to create an addon domain called test.planetstudy.co.uk

There was a problem creating the addondomain. Show Details

Error from park wrapper: Invalid domain [test]

The obvious to assume from this is that I am not entering the full domain name in the domain field. But alas, if only it was that simple.

Just in case I was doing something wrong though, I checked out the help which seemed to indicate that I first need to add a subdomain and then add an addon domain making sure that the directory name is the same as specified when creating the sub domain. This makes no difference and I still get the same error.

I've search everywhere to see if anybody got the same problem but no luck.

    Can anybody help on this?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you are creating a subdomain. For example, if planetstudy.co.uk is the primary domain on that account and you're also trying to have test.planetstudy.co.uk on your account - test.planetstudy.co.uk would be a subdomain.

Subdomains and addon domains are essentially two different functions. Subdomains deal with sub domains (e.g. test.(your primary domain)) whereas addon domains deal with entirely different domains - for example if you wanted example.co.uk to point some content on the same account as planetstudy.co.uk, that would be an addon domain.

All you need to do is create a subdomain, there should be no need to create an addon domain if I understand your situation correctly.

I see what you are saying. So your saying that addon domains only deal with domain names that are not related to the same domain name? You have to point anotherdomain.com to currentdomain.com?

It's a little confusing though because I would have thought it would still work really. I had to add an A record called test within the DNS of the registrar. It's still just another domain with an IP. Also, the error message doesn't seem to give a clue pointing to that being the problem. It seemed to exlude the full domain name and only include the first part test.

Actually, what drew me to using the addon domain funtions in the first place was because it creates a seperate FTP account meaning that I can ensure data integrity. In other words, 2 seperate accounts. One for test.planetstudy.co.uk and one for www.planetstudy.co.uk

I suppose I could just create a subdomain and then create another FTP account pointing to the subdirectory off public_html.

I still would have thought it possible though using addon domain as long as I had already created the subdomain. Confusing.
