    Default Exim vs. sendmail?

Hello, I am new to Cpanel and I am wondering

    1) what the difference is between Exim and Sendmail?

    2) Is sendmail still active on the cPanel system?

    3) Does Exim work exactly like sendmail? For example, if my users want to configure their scripts with a mailer, what path do I give them? The usual sendmail path /usr/sbin/sendmail or the exim path /usr/sbin/exim?

    I sue Cpanel on a RHEL 4.

    Thanks.

    Ok, thanks.

It was a bit confusing. So, if I understand well, to use exim, I still have to provide the Sendmail path, even if in fact I am not using Sendmail per se?

To help reduce some of the confusion ....

Systems with Cpanel do not have any actual "sendmail" program installed
but Exim provides replacement programs called "sendmail" which are essentially
injection redirection scripts to Exim which allows for seemless compatibility with
user scripts requiring and looking for the sendmail binaries.

All the scripts would still be configured the same as they would under sendmail and
are totally oblivious to the fact that the mail is actually being handled by exim.

Actually from a user perspective, there is no difference whatsoever

From an administrator perspective, it's little more than a trivia fact for your information
