file download

I have a webpage "www.website.html" and a program "program.exe" all in the public_html folder. in the webpage code there is a link to run the program...

<a href="program.exe">link</a>

whenever you click on it tho it trys to open it as a webpage and not download it...

www.website.html/program.exe

what am i doing wrong???

Please make sure that you have added proper MIME type for your program in your domain. However, i think it is not possible to support .exe files in the linux server.
