Default First Time Install - New Domain - Nameserver Config

I am helping a client turn up a new webserver that will be using cpanel.

So far, the client has registered a new domain with their registar, created A records for base.domain.com, ns1 and ns2.domain.com and pointed them to the server they have purchased. I'm not one for running two nameserver on one ip / one box, but hey, I do what they ask.

They do not want to use their registar for name services for the main domain, they want the zone to be ns1 / ns2 inside of cpanel.

Are they on the right steps to do this? Once cpanel is installed on this fresh server, I assume they'd just create a zone for the domain and matching records and then after propagation through nameservers, just swap what they have at their registar to point the domain at the new nameservers?

    Thanks,
    Jason

I am not sure if I understand you correctly but if you are talking about controlling their own DNS as in ns1 and ns2, then NO, that cannot be done.

DNS settings HAVE TO BE DONE at the registrar's end.
