Ftp directly to a subdomain

Hey if anyone could possiably help, i am attempting to ftp directly to a subdomain. I have created the same ftp username as the subdomain as directed but when i attempt to connect viva ftp it wont accept the username and password i created for the subdomain, however if i use my master username and password i can logon to the ftp of the subdomain. Any help would be appreciated. Everything else works out alright is there anything i am missing out on?

Make sure that when logging into the new FTP account you created that you use ftpusername@domain.com as the FTP user, it's not just ftpusername and the password.
