    Default ftp permission

i had this included in an old post but i can't find the old post now.

except for the root account, whatever other accounts there are, they can't write, rename, or do anything to the files.

in other words, root is the only way my users can upload or edit their files....someone posted that it has something to do with the permissions.....how can i fix this?

Root will always have access to all the files and folders irrespective of permissions and ownership.

To check the permission and ownership of a file. Goto the particular directory by 'cd' command and then type :-
ls -la filename << TO check permission and ownership.

To change the ownership for a directory :-
    chown username:username directoryname -R

thank you, what you guys seemes to have worked since the permissions changed....but the account itself isn't working....when itry to ftp, it says host "ip address" or "Host" not found.......it makes no sense because i can still login with root....

    Default wow

    nevemind i figured it out

to shehkar, a part of me hate you for making me go through that....it was riving me crazy...i did a google search and from the info i got i thought it was an apache attack. (which i have no idea what it is).....anyway.....

i don't know if you knew this would happen or not, but next time you want to send that little line of code to someone, tell them that if they do it, no one will be able to access it!!!!

    solution to fix was:
    Chown username:nobody foler_name -R

...and yes, i did fiure it out ALL by myself.
