ftp username with no @

One of my clients wants to be able to ftp to the server using

ftp://usernameassword@server.com

But when I set up an ftp user account the username has the @<site>.<tld> appended, which would lead to something like

ftp://username@server.comassword@server.com

Not good.

Is there a way to set up an ftp name without the @

The primary account does not need it.

You should be able to use a # instead of an @.

Oh yeah, tell them to use a real ftp client

If you are using browser, you need to use @ in between.Otherwise you should use ftp clients.

The better way is to use simple FTP. (Internet Explorer)

1. Open FTP URL ftp://yourdomain.com
2. Enter username ftpuser@yourdomain.com
3. Password of FTP account.

The primary account does not need it.

If the client uses the master FTP account instead of an "addon" domain FTP account,
then they can login with just the plain login name without any "@" or "#" or "+" and
they don't have to specify the domain name as part of the login name either.

Hi

I had this problem today. This was caused because I added another website to my dedicated server. If you only have 1 website running, however, you can connect to the ftp accoutn withut the need for @domain.com at the end of your username.

This also works for any subdomains or addon domain you have under 1 account.

If the account has a dedicated IP address, it is not necessary to use the @domain.tld format. For domains on shared IP addresses, the @domain.tld or #domain.tld format is necessary. This is because the FTP service needs the domain portion to know which file in /etc/proftpd to look at for the usernames and passwords. The main account, the cPanel user, can always log in without the domain, whether the account has a shared or dedicated IP address.
