You really should use search first as this has been answered plenty of times before.
The reason for the domain being required is that cPanel creates virtual FTP accounts so that each account on the server can have a choice of username for their domain name, otehrwise you could only have one sales user on the whole server, for example. there is a way to just use a single username if you don't actually have anyone else on the server other than youself. Do a search to find out how.
