Default Getting error trying yo upload images to cpanel

I was in cpanel for the first time this morning and I was trying to upload some images to the editor and I received this message:

C:\fakepath\jgen.jpg: unknown Bytes complete FAILED! : Upload canceled: couldnot rename /home/ammetal/public_html/_/images/jgen.jpg to /home/ammetal/public_html/_/images/jgen.jpg. (permission denied)

I tried changing the name of the file and movng the file to a different location with the same result. I also tried different file types (ie. png, bmp, jpg). No luck there either.

I know there is probably an answer for this in the forums, however I was unable to find it. Thanks for any help you can offer on this issue.

I've removed the poll, not sure why we'd need a poll for this thread.

You might check with your Hosting Provider on this one, see if they've got something scanning uploads that might be preventing this from working for you. Not sure about that path where you're attempting to upload to with a space in it, you might try uploading to public_html to test.

Do you have root access to this server and can check error logs right after upload attempt?

Within the public_html folder there are 3 files: cgi-bin, specs, and "_". Within the "_" file is the images file where all the images for the site are stored. I don't know why it was setup that way. I'm just trying to make some changes to one of the existing pages by adding a few images. That is where I was uploading the files. Do I need to have root access to be able to upload the pictures?

I tried uploading one of the images again and then reviewed the error logs. This was the most recent error in the log:

    "2012-08-06 12:46:48.158 [INFO] [157.55.16.230:33352-0#APVH_ammetal.com] File not found [/home/ammetal/public_html/404.shtml] "

Do you think if I rename the file it would have an impact on whether or not the upload errors out? I apologize if I sound ignorant, but this is literally my first experience with cpanel.

Based on my last statement, I tried to upload the file directly into the public_html directory, instead of saving it into the "_" file. As a result, I was able to upload the picture without getting the error, however after I edited the page with the image and tried to save the file I receive another error:

Error-Could not open home/ammetal/pubic_html/about_us.shtml for writing: permission denied.

At this point I'm thinking that it's my user privileges and not a system issue. I thought the account that I was using to log into was the admin account. What can I do to confirm this? Thank you.
