How to add new hard drives

Please don't chop me up with linux code talk because I wont understand but could someone please help me with a good proceedure to hook up a new external harddrive for backups.

I have 2 new western digital 320 gig external hard drives that I have connected via usb ports to the server.

When i go to the format/mount page, WHM registers that there is a C drive but not the external hard drives.

I have tried to swap usb ports but still no registering of the HDD's.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the link, it is pretty good and easy to understand.

I followed the instructions and did not get the command line response indicating that a hard drive had been discovered.

This has got me a little confused. Admittedly i puttied in remotely, would that make a difference?

I would have thought not.
