    Default I can't change permissions

    Hello,

I recently got a dedicated server with whm / cpanel.

I created an account and installed joomla on it through fantastico.

I access it through ftp and I can't change permissions on some folders or files so I can't perform simple tasks like changing a logo or overwrite a file.

On some forums they say I have to set up my server in a way that would allow that, but I just don't know what I have to do.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Ben

    cPanel/Enkompass Access Level

    Root Administrator

From SSH you could run for example edit name and path of course:

    chown -R ben_gosu:ben_gosu /home/ben_gosu/public_html/joomla

This would make sure all files are owned by that user so could be worked with via FTP.

It sounds to me though that you uploaded a theme or module via joomla admin panel. This sets all files it can make, to owned by nobody. Running the command above will fix that for now. But you'll come across this again next time you add something via joomla admin.

Suggestion, upgrade your server to apache2.x with suPHP.
(many topics on it on the forums)

Uploading files then will be owned by the user as it should be.

If you're not sure what to do ask your host or hire a pro to do it for you.
