Mailboxes with the domain registrar

Hello

I'm very very new to using WHM. I've got a client for who I made an account for. He has a couple of paid mailboxes with his domain registrar (not me).
When I change the nameservers of his existing domain, those mailboxes will no longer work (correct?).
I've had this problem once before but then I worked with a third-party hosting company so they resolved that problem.
I know it has something to do with the MX records (edit DNS zone?) but like I said, I am new to all of this so I don't touch anything unless I know what it will do

Anyone who can help me out on this one?

And is there a detailed manual of WHM/cPanel? I've searched on the documentation sites but they mainly just describe the functions, not really details about how to use them.

Maybe the easiest thing would be to keep the nameservers of the registrar, and then edit the DNS there, just point the website to your server, and leaving the MX as is? Some there is just a simple redirect for websites.

Do you mean URL forwarding?
Forwarding the domain to www.myhosting.com/~accountname ?

I could do that, but I'd like to do it the right way

The best idea for you would be to keep the nameservers as there are now and point the A record for the domain to your cPanel server.
This will keep the mail where it is and the site will be served from your cpanel server.

So in WHM, I go to the 'Edit DNS Zone' and choose the account.
There I see:
domain.com | 14400 | IN | A | xx.xx.xx.xxx

Those numbers at the end, is the A Record I have to send to the domain registrar?

It's the same IP as my own account as well as all the others ...

Go to the DNS record at the Registrar. Change the A record for the domain to
domain.com | 14400 |IN | A | your.server.IP.address

That will keep all services with the registrar (email), and direct all website stuff to your server.
