Unhappy My cPanel is a mess

I can't think of how to search for an answer.
I think I have too many versions of the same domains. Under my root I have a public with my subdomains and I just noticed inside there is another public with another set of the same subdomains.
And there is the www. with another whole set of everything.
I was using filezilla to drop stuff into the top set of subdomains. then when I started using wordpress, it was uploading files into the second set of subdomains where they didn't show up on my blog.
So I started dragging them up to the first set and now things are really getting messy. I've been searching for an example of what the cPanel should look like but without much luck.
Can any body tell me, should I just delete the second public and work from there? Is the www. supposed to be there?
    thanks.

The www is suppose to be there, it is linked to public_html. I have seen people add the www when creating the account in WHM but that would be a mistake.

Your host should be able to help you with this.

If you're not sure what you're doing, create a directory called JUNK or something like that, outside your public_html directory.

Move file/folders you think are indeed JUNK into it. Then, see what breaks. Easier to put files back if you've not deleted them.

Are you sure the www isn't the "shortcut" to the public_html directory?

Yes I am sure it is, I thought they posted the domain folders said www.domain.com, not just www.

The way I read it was like:
    Code:
    /domain/public_html
/domain/www (is always linked to the above)
    /domain/public_html/www.domain.com
    /domain/public_html/subdomain
    /domain/public_html/www.subdomain
But after re-reading it I misread it, thanks Infopro I will edit the above post.

    Default Thanks

That's a good idea. I'll just rename that stuff I think is duplicate and see what happens.
