Default New to Cpanel, a few questions I need help with.

Hey, I am new to cpanel, I have been a linux/windows/freebsd admin for like 10 years now, but I am just getting into the hosting industry as a business, and so I am learning cpanel through use...

Everything was absolutely simple to pick up, and it is an exceptional piece of software, but I have a few questions:

1 - I have noticed that suddenly many links / images in my monsoon theme have become broken... (This appears to have happened overnight, I am assuming an automatic update). I looked where they were, and it appeared it was just a bunch of symlinks back to the X theme... so I recreated the ones I have found so far and that is fine... What would have caused this? and how can I avoid it? (I like the monsoon theme)

2 - I have fantastico as part of my license (through a reseller, Superb Servers) and so I want to enable this great pack of scripts for my clients... But how do I enable the fantastico stuff in my clients cpanels?

3 - My clients are (and have been) accustomed to awstats, as I have been using it for a long time. But they prefer to not have to log in to view their stats. (on my old server they had stats.theirdomain.com automatically running for them which was publicly viewable) I am assuming I could link apache in with a httpd.conf directive to alias the /stats folder on all virtual domains into the stats code for awstats, but I seem to be having authentication issues or something... Does anyone know a simple way to grant users public access to the stats for their site? (without me having to manually do it for each and every domain I create, that would take forever)

4 - I seem to be having trouble figuring out the contact thing. I have my pager and email setup in contacts, and I have the different priorities setup, but if I do it exactly as the instructions say, it appears to be "inverted" so it sends EVERYTHING to my pager... but then if I swap it around EVERYTHING goes to email, so I can't figure it out... right now I am getting no notifications at all... Also does it not notify you of serverload going above the set limit, or other important things? (I would love for my pager to get dinged under those circumstances too)

    Thanks a ton!

    First NEVER use automatic updates
    1. try removing & reinsalling the theme
    2. see the installation guide at http://netenberg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=950
    3. see http://www.josheli.com/vox/ there is a script there for vieing stats outside cpanel
    4. for load notificatin you would have to run your own script (SIM comes to mind)

So with that awstats hack, you still have to drop that script into each users site, which is fine, I can do that with skel (I think). But the problem would be it needs their cpanel username/password hardcoded in the file... can I get around this? (this is a thing that ALL my users are going to want, and I don't want to have to hand code hundreds of awstats scripts...

If it simply isn't possible, then I will need to setup a login for them to authenticate.

If I were you I would just train your customers to go https://domain.com:2083/awstats.pl?c...in.com&lang=en

if they are that set on stats.theirdomain.com

then create a subdomain for there accounts stats and redirect to above

as keeping AWStats in cpanel is much more secure if you remember a while back there was a security exploit discovered in AWSTATS and still to this day I still get hacking attempts to

    stats.domain.com/awstats & domain.com/awstats

What about the confusion with the contacts? Is there a "guide" to using that contact system that works? whenever I follow their directions it clearly doesn't work that way...

    Default MONSOON theme

    Hey

Forget about using the monsoon theme. It is rubbish.
It has soo many hyperlinks and images missing.

Most of them are mearly symlinks to the x theme anyway.

Stick with the X theme, it works perfectly !!
