    Default Password Protected Directory Question

    Hello there,

we are currently using a password protected directory for storing some information to our clients which seems to be working fine.

However we have a few training videos (in wmv format) and whenever they are clicked on they require the user to re-enter their login credentials which can become rather annoying. Is there any way to keep the directory password protected while not having to enter in these credentials multiple times for each video file?

    Cheers,
    Whey

Sounds like you're storing the video files in separate, password protected directory? If you protect yourdomain.com/info/ and add the videos to a directory, yourdomain.com/info/video/ you should be good to go.

All files are within the password protected directory so the video folders are within the password protected directory.

We had some successful attempts on windows 7 however using xp and firefox when you click on the wmv link it prompts for a username/password prior to loading the video. This is only when you left click. You can right click and download with no problems, however we would like to have a functional streaming option if possible.

I can send you login credentials if desired.

    Cheers,

    Question

    No need.

So, you are sitting on this page:
    yourdomain.com/info/index.html
And you have a video file in a directory:
    yourdomain.com/info/videos/myclip.wmv
And a link on the index.html page directly to the clip, or to a new page with the clip embeded?

We have made an auto indexer that generates all content (with some minor exceptions) so if the video was located on the /info/videos/myclip.wmv it would be listed under the /info/videos/index.html where as the folder for /info/videos would be located under /info/index.html.

It works on some browers (currently working fine w/ windows 7 and firefox 3.6). However on several browsers (including the one hard coded into our program) asks users to re-enter their credentials prior to viewing the video. After a click on the link it then opens up windows media player (locally) and the user is prompted to enter the username/password.

I'm sorry, not much I can help with there then. You'd need to check the program and how that works. My only suggestion would be to make sure no other password protected directories are sharing files with this/these directories you're using.
