Re-directing from a non-existent subdomain?

Hi, I did a couple of searches for this, but I couldn't find anyone who had this particular question

I just recently started to get more familiar with my cpanel so my question may seem very very basic


I just recently moved some files to a new subdomain and I set it up permanently so that all visitors would be directed to the new url. My question is, does the old subdomain still need to be there in the directory in order for the re-direct to work? If I delete it, will the re-direct be deleted as well?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

It would require the old subdomain. If you will delete it, the redirection will no longer work.

I would just remove the old subdomain and then add it back again
as a "ServerAlias" on the account where you want to redirect.

Alternatively, you could setup wildcard DNS for the domain

Just a little bit cleaner way of doing things
