Default Softaculous is it worth it ?

I would like to hear from people who are using this script / program.

How do you like it? Is it worth switching from Fantastico?

    Thumbs up

I love it, just started using softaculous yesterday and to tell you the truth, it has way more software titles then fantastico has, but I won't totally switch from fantastico to softaculous. I am going to keep both for customers who are used to using fantastico.

For those who are looking at this thread confused or want to try out either of the programs mentioned in this thread ....

    To install Fantastico:
    Code:
      cd /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi
      wget -N http://files.betaservant.com/file/free/fantastico_whm_admin.tgz
      tar -zxpvf ./fantastico_whm_admin.tgz
      rm -rf ./fantastico_whm_admin.tgz
(NOTE: You will need to purchase a license for Fantastico)

    To install Softaculous:
    Code:
      cd /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi
      wget -N http://www.softaculous.com/ins/addon_softaculous.php
      chmod 755 addon_softaculous.php
(FREE version works by default - No purchase required!)

The refresh your WHM screen and look at the bottom of the left column

Both are 3rd party automated software installers for Cpanel ...

Fantastico Deluxe - requires a commercial license, better known.

Softaculous - Newer and offers both free and commercial licenses and their free version actually has more installable applications than the full commercial version of Fantastico and their paid commercial version has hundreds more with more promised to come and stands as a likely contender to replace Fantastico. It will be quite interesting to see just how Netenberg (Fantastico's creator) responds.

There is also a 3rd contender called Installatron but since it is more expensive than either of the previous mentioned options and not substantially better enough I think to warrant the difference, probably won't stand as a main contestant for the top slot.

Spiral installed this for me last week and some of our clients like this program so i got a licence but most still stick with fantastico so I personally wouldnt get rid of fantastico.
