    Default Use port 587?

Up until last week my customers could use port 26 as an alternative to port 25.

SBC sent out an email saying to use port 587.

Telling EXIM to run another on port 587 doesn't seem to work.

    What do I do?

Search did not yield much info for me.

    Thank you for your help.

According to RFC 2476, Port 587 is reserved for authenticted email message submission, and is always a safe bet when port 25 has been blocked by an ISP.

How far is your customer getting when they try to send mail?

    - Did they change the Outgoing Server port to 587 in their mail client? They may need to close and re-open Outlook etc. Also -- any mail stuck in their out box after the change may have to be "opened" and sent again. A good test would be to create a new message.

    - Are you seeing the connection refused in any of your Exim mail logs, or are they be refused at the ISP level?

In addition to what RickG says, do you have an iptables firewall and have you opened up the incoming port 587 ?
