    Default Websites with CPanel

Hi. Hopefully somebody can help me because I am so lost. My boss has asked me to update our website, which he knows nothing about because someone else built it. It is on cpanelx and that is all the information that I have. How do I make changes to pages and all that kind of things? I know how to use both microsoft publisher and adobe illustrator, is there some way to upload a site from one of these programs? Thanks for all your help.

    Crystal

cPanel is just the interface to your hosting account and has nothing to do with your actual files as far as editing them.

To edit your pages you would need a text editor or a html editor program and of course be familiar with html and perhaps some PHP and Mysql since you are a cPanel client.

Do you have webpages on your local machine , then you can edit them in frontpage and then publish it using frontpage .

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the standard way of transferring files on the Internet. You can use an FTP program to upload your existing web site to your web space. FTP is built into many programs including Frontpage, Dreamweaver and Windows Explorer. You can also download any FTP program from the Internet to transfer your files.

    FTP Programs:

Core FTP Lite (windows, free): http://www.coreftp.com
    WS FTP (windows): http://www.wsftp.com
    Smart FTP (windows): http://www.smartftp.com
Cute FTP (windows and mac): http://www.cuteftp.com
    Captain FTP (mac): http://www.captainftp.com

If you are going for a serious web designing tool to manage to website you should probably use a tool like http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/

The web designing tools have the built in functionality to connect to the ftp server to synchronize files remotely. You may use your cpanel login details as the user name/password for the ftp transaction.

Please remember that if it's a website/server running serious business, it'll be great if you can consult with some web designer / developer to manage the website.
