    Default Database Corrupted

    Hi All,

Recently I took a complete database backup using the CPanel data backup. When I restored the databackup I found that the posts made in a different language were showing as garbage on my forums. All the other posts were fine, but just the posts which were in any other language were corrupted.

    Please have a look..

Just don't know what went wrong and what should have been done to avoid this.

    Thanks

cPanel should retain the setting for the character set of the database when re-importing, but that may not have happened. If I had to guess, however, I'd say there's somehow now a discrepancy between what the forum expects for an encoding (i.e. UTF-8) and what the data is actually stored as in the database (e.g. the default of latin1). You should check this and ensure both are using the same character set specifications.

A difference in character encoding can easily cause this type of problem, whether it is in the database or just the forum software (including its HTML & headers); the same character encoding should be configured throughout all areas.

Was the entire forum installation restored from a cPanel account backup, or was it restored using some other method? Was the database restored as part of a cPanel account backup or separately after manually restoring or reuploading/reinstalling the forums software?
