    Default Have standalone mysql server?

I am thinking to restructure my dedicated hosting servers a little but before I take the leap, wanted to make sure I am not making a mistake.

    Which is better and why?
    1. have 2 quad core cpanel servers both running independent of each other, each hosting mysql, websites and mail.

    or

    2. have one quad core server running mysql on its own and nothing else and a hex core server for all the web sites.

Is number two possible to do with cpanel?

Is it difficult to link one cpanel server into a standalone mysql dedicated server?

The best thing is to have a separate server for MySQL with SSD drives + RAID 10 + good processor, this is the perfect combination for performance + data security.

So what you are saying, even without SSD drives RAID 10 etc, is having a separate server for mysql is the better option.

Can i link multiple other cpanel servers into 1 single mysql server then? With ease?

Yes, and you can use one mysql server for multiples web hosting servers.
The setup is easy, just go to Setup Remote MySQL server and enter the details of mysql server.

What kind of redundancy would you add to the MySQL server?

Would you, for example setup 2x MySQL servers with a Master - Master replication type setup, maybe running sometimes like Linux HeartBeat inbetween to have a common shared IP?

Or what else would you do?

Cause if the MySQL server fails (and it will since SSD's have a limited write cycle) then all the sites will be down as well.

Does anyone have any sort of information/data (ie benchmarking etc) to support that it is more efficient to have a separate mysql server as opposed to using a localhost one?

you should also consider that are the servers at the same datacenter? because it might also be a problem.. I would advise you to try to look for a friend or someone to do a 'try run' for a day or a week to see how are the things going on..
