Have you ruled out the possibility that your credentials are bad by testing them via a localhost connection (e.g. from the server itself)?

The "@xx.xx.209.216" is the IP you need to create a host for. if u have cable modem its prob dynamic so it will change alot.

Have you ensured that the user has been added to the database in question? Oftentimes, people create the database in cPanel > MySQL Databases area, then create the user there, but do not do the third step to add that MySQL user to the database. That option is toward the bottom of cPanel > MySQL Databases area for the "Add User To Database" section.

I'm having the exact same problem, The site is even working via localhost, so yes all is in place, yet i cant connect neither vya MyODBC or to create things with DW.

The GUI of MySQL works fine so I'm lost here.
