Default Setting up a local Dev site with Cpanel

I've taken over webmaster duties on a site hosted and run with Cpanel. There have been a couple of admins before me. My question: Is there a tutorial/link someone could direct me to, that would show me how to FTP the site(including the Cpanel CMS) onto my local machine so I can run it on wamp and begin to familiarize myself without taking chances with the live site?

I have an FTP login for both the site and the cpanel section from the web host. But I'm not sure of the exact procedure for mirroring the current site on my local machine.

I'm basically new to Cpanel and am reading through all the newbie tutes I can find, but I'm looking for a quick answer to THIS question. I'm not much of a server admin, mostly a database guy, so this project presents a challenge.

    Thank you in advance,

    Newb

You may wish to use Web Disk by clicking on the Web Disk icon in your cPanel interface. Web Disk allows you to drag and drop files to and from your hosting account.

If you prefer to use FTP, FTPing into a cPanel/WHM server is the same as FTPing into any other *nix server. If you need assistance with this, contact your hosting provider as they may already have the tutorials you are looking for.

cPanel/WHM is a control panel, not a CMS, so you wont be able to just "download" it to your local machine.

Default Thansk for the reply ...

I do not see the Web Disk link you are talking about. On the left side of my control panel, I have the following items:

    CONTROL PANEL

    EMAIL CONTACT LIST
    USER MANAGEMENT
    ADMIN SYSTEM MESSAGES
    USER GROUPS
    GROUP LIST
    WEBSITE CONTENT MAP
    MAIN PAGE BLURB
    NEWS & EVENTS
    PHOTO GALLERY CATEGORY
    PHOTO GALLERY
    VIDEO GALLERY CATEGORY
    VIDEO GALLERY
    ADMIN CALENDAR
    ADMIN PAGES

Part of the issue here is we are working with a hosting company (who also developed the original site) who apparently no longer has a support department. They are going through problems and I am trying to learn about cpanel by setting up a fresh dev site and troubleshooting some issues we've been having.

I'll keep reading the resources on this site. But if you could point me to exactly where web disk is ... and also how to install cpanel on a local wamp based server, I would appreciate it.

What you listed is not functionality found in cPanel. I don't know what software that is, but that isn't cPanel.

You would login to cPanel by going to example.com/cpanel where example.com is your website's domain. Once logged in, you should see something like this:

    http://cpanel.demo.cpanel.net/login/...b&pass=x3demob

Web Disk is found under the Files section of the cPanel interface.

cPanel/WHM cannot be installed on a Windows server.
