Hi everyone, pretty much one of my first posts, but i lurk a lot and read heaps too, most however is over my head.
But a bit of advice please
I have a debian server running vmserver with a centos5 vm and using cpanel vps. about 400 web clients on there. server load sits at about 0.26 most of the time and about 12.2% mem used.
Hardware is a xeon approx 3 ghz (or so) 1of2 processors installed with 4 of 12gb ram. (all upgradable)
SATA hdds in mirror raid.
1) Is it a bad idea to create another vm to be the game server on the same base hardware?
I read that its not advised to run the game servers on the same machine as the hosting server but Im hoping that due to the machine twiddling its thumbs most of the time and being vms... well i'm hoping for blessings here.
2) what os is suggested for gaming servers anyway ?
oh btw this is a bit of an experiment anyway, if it works well i'll be installing another server just with vm game servers.
3) as an afterthought, what kind of bandwidth usage should i expect inbound and outbound hosting a game server ?
thanks,
Steve
