Default cannot get gameservers to work properly

    Howdy,

thought I'd try a second go at getting htis installed. Followed all the directions to the T.

I try to setup the HL server in the user's account, and every config pretends it's saving but fails to do so, but the advanced editor yields this:

    HalfLife Server Control
ERROR: Can not open config file: Permission denied
    Launch config file saved.

all the data reverst back so some defaults that are not even on this server IP addy wise.

trying the steam config yields this (I x'd out username):

Could not open Steam config file (/home/xxxxx/.gameservers/hlds_l/steam.sav) : No such file or directory
Saved Value : stuser xxxxx hlds Saved Value : stuser xxxxx hlds
Could not open Steam config file (/home/xxxxx/.gameservers/hlds_l/steam.sav) : No such file or directory
Saved Value : stpass xxxxx hlds Saved Value : stpass xxxxxx hlds

forget any other updates. they crash without the other stuff config'd above.

    uninstalling yeilds this error:
    Half-Life Server is not installed.

then shows me a screen to enter the Half-life server so I can config it again.

Even the initial install .sh file yields a bunch of files not being found during the untarring process:
tar: gameserv/doaddparked.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/dodelparked.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/index.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/UT2004Log.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/ut2k4logo.gif: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/ut2004logo.gif: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/Savage.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/savagelogo.gif: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/UT2004.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/SavageCtl.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/SavageCtlStop.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/SavageConf.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/SavageInstall.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/SavageUninstall.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: gameserv/live_UT2004Install.html: Cannot open: No such file or directory
.... and it goes on for many more

How do you get this thing to work on a server that already has shared hosting accounts going? ... and is not dedicated to gaming?

I must be missing something so obvious that it would kill me to stumble upon it now

    found most of the problem...

when installing the game server it assigns ownership of the game server files to the user first on the list, no matter what user is selected and no matter where gameserver files are setup at (user CP or WHM)

I've tried installing this about 50 times today on several differing servers. every single time, it stalls at 8:19 time passed an any server or user account I try to install the Half Life game server on (even using the very first account listed inthe account lists).

I can turn off every service but minimals and no difference.

tried different mirrors for files. checked quotas and space available, check firewalls (in fact turned them completely off, just to see if it would install).

Even if I wait for a bit, it's still incomplete on the user side.

I'm starting to wonder if this is even going to work. very discouraged

It sounds like your server package file is corrupted and the install is not completing correctly. If you can, put in a ticket with login info for the server and I'll take a look.

when installing the game server it assigns ownership of the game server files to the user first on the list, no matter what user is selected and no matter where gameserver files are setup at (user CP or WHM)
I've never seen that before, that'd be quite a large bug. I think there is something else going on with it.
