    Default cPGS 0.5.0

    Hey all,

Better late than never, I guess

After several months of support-only work, I was given the green light to get cPGS 0.5.0 done. I'm pretty sure I've remembered all the main points, but some of my original to-do list was truncated and saved for 0.5.1 since STABLE is now cP11, x and x2 are being deprecated and x3 needs to be supported asap. Since the install has changed quite a bit, some people may see it not working when they update. Hopefully it will go smoothly, however there are several changes you should be aware of.
Te biggest change is in how packages are dealt with. No longer will you have the server.123456789.tar.bz2 file, but rather a server.cpgs file. They are basically the same, but the server.cpgs file contains all the install information in special file headers rather than having to download a list of information from cpgs.cpanel.net each time a server is installed. This should help with custom server packages quite a bit. You'll need to download the new packages and can delete the old ones. In the near future I hope to write a package editor that will let you package your custom server files for cPGS via WHM. Packages for all the currently supported servers are available on http://cpgs.nework3.net/ , once the release has been tested on various machines as ok, I'll work on getting an rsync service working for all mirrors so everyone can be up to date every day.

As always, if anyone sees any problems in the update or afterwards, put in a ticket so I can verify it and get it fixed. I'm currently seeing one issue in America's Army where it's timing out at 498/499 seconds each time. If anyone can corroborate that, it would be appreciated. The new version of AA is a whopping 3GB unpacked, 2.1GB packed, so that may cause problems with any apache 1.3.x mirrors with a 2GB limit.

    Default List of other changes

Another notable change is the TeamSpeak install. It used to download TS every time the client installed it, now it is downloaded and packaged on the fly via WHM (the mirror you choose does not apply in this case) and that package is used for each client install.

Also, be sure to update the package locations in WHM or ssh directly in /var/cpanel/gameserv_global.cfg before downloading the new package files. They should point to the .cpgs package now, ex: /path/to/savage.cpgs or /path/to/hlds.cpgs

    Other changes from the changelog:

    # Fixed BF2142 simple config
    # Updated BF2142 server package
    # Alphabetic sorting of users in WHM management list
    # Added extra checks to the installer detection to be sure it wouldn't claim to be installing forever in case it crashes
    # Fixed link in TeamSpeak install (was pointing to Savage.html)
    # Updated installer to greatly simplify the process
    # Cleaned up uid/gid checking while fixing issue starting games when user and group names differed
    # Added experimental graphic for WHM menu link rather than text
    # Added auto conversion code to the install script for new format of global games config file
    # Updated the package manager to use new format
    # Added GUI for the package downloader for detailed information on downloads in WHM
    # Changed TeamSpeak Installer to be more like other packages
    # Updated all game server packages to the new format
    # Changed installer dynamics to allow for more than one type of the same sort of game in a future release
    # Updated Savage options and handlers for new server version (SFE)
    # Updated cPGSD to properly detect lack of IO::Socket::SSL module and error out with installation information
    # Made basic x3 theme for staff designers to prettify
    # Fixed " saving in game configs
    # Updated version checker to be more robust
    # Fixed issue with partially installed games not showing up at all
    # Updated America's Army to 2.81

    Hi Darren,

After upgrade, in WHM we got this big ol' button on an otherwise nice and neat Plugins menu with only links. yuk.

Also clicking link in cPanel account with cpgs access takes you to a 404.

Still poking around but theres two from me.

    Wink

If using x2 theme though, clicking cpgs takes you to the correct page.

Infopro - Try doing a forced reinstall from WHM now and let me know if you still get the 404 in cPanel using the x3 theme. I updated one line in the installer but wanted to get that fixed asap so I figured I'd skip a version update.

The cPGS button in WHM is, as noted, experimental, mainly in whether people like the idea or not. I'm guessing no, so the next release will likely see it using a text link like the other plugins again ^_^

    That fixed it.

I guess some might like the button, I know I could do without it.

    Thanks Darren.

    Hi Darren,

Seems all users now have an icon for gameservers in their cPanel. We can't have that.

Infopro - This is an unforunate side effect of the new plugins system required by cp11/x3, cPGS is now a "feature" that can be disabled in WHM (edit the default feature list, uncheck it near the bottom). For users you want to have cPGS for, the feature will need to be enabled. I'll try to find out if I can set the feature to be disabled by default in the next release, but I'm not sure I can assume to create a new featurelist "package" on the server and change any account that cPGS is enabled for. I'll try to talk to the core devs and see if something more like the old behavior can be used.

night-fire - It should download the TS server package directly from the TS servers (regardless of which mirror you select in WHM). If it's not working, put in a ticket so I can take a look at why.

Sounds reasonable to me. I don't have a problem creating an additional feature list myself just for gameservers accounts. Thanks.

night-fire - Thanks for putting in that ticket, I was able to get both your probs fixed up hopefully. The access denied message was coming because you hadn't added in .242 into the cpgsd.cfg's allowedips= line. The update server (cpgs.cpanel.net) doesn't ban anyone

For anyone else having the TeamSpeak download problem, try 0.5.1, it should take care of it. If not, put in a ticket so I can get it working and supported for others. In this case, it was a version of wget that spit out 10 periods in the -dot mode rather than 8.
