    Default High Ping

    Howdy folks,

Just wondering if you can help me.. Ive just got one server running (to see where the problem is)..

Ive got a COD4 server running on the server and that is pretty much the only thing running (according to the process list... apache etc are on there too but low resources for them!).. 2gb Ram and a Dual core xeon

Its in VERY large datacentre close by and the pings on my server seem to be rather high and this is probably the closest server to me in the UK! Other servers seem to perform allot better than my one...

Im also getting quiet a few "connection interupted" messages on there aswell

I have the same problem with the CoD4.
Our server is located in Dallas TX and even people in Dallas are getting ping times of >60
Theoretically they should be getting <10ms.
Then over in England pings are as high as 210ms that is really odd as if i run CoD2 server and connect from England the ping is <150ms

There's a lot of talk of lag in 1.7 servers on the COD4 mailing list partly to do with Punkbuster.

You will also find their are quite a few experienced dedicated game server admins subscribed to that list who discuss all manner of troubleshooting and mods.

COD4 server admins wanting to join the list just need to send a blank email to cod-subscribe@icculus.org

If you think it may have something to do with CPGS put a ticket into Darren.

I'm pretty sure this is a CoD4 issue; in all it's glory, cPGS is just a perl script to run a command that starts the server (hopefully), there's no magic going on. If cPGSD was using 100% of cpu or something like that than I can see it affecting performance. You can also try launching it via SSH like you would without cPGS to see if you still see the same issue or not to easily rule out (or in?) cPGS from the equation.
