New game server addition?

I was just wondering if this would ever start to support the minecraft game server, it would be a huge addition and maybe get more people to use it as I know I would, I don't right now because minecraft is the only game I play on the pc that lets you run your own server.

It's not outside the realm of possibility, but we'll have to see. IIRC the minecraft client and server are both java applications, so I'd either have to have cPGS install java systemwide whenever someone installs a minecraft server or install a localized java into the user's home directory, which seems like a really bad idea. Most likely having java installed would simply be a prerequisite for minecraft and it would be up to the server admins (hosting server, not game server) to ensure java was installed; a little documentation should make that feasible.
Regardless of the final implementation, the server will have to be freely available (like most game servers) and not encumbered by a strict license for distribution (I need to be able to make a package of it and have it hosted on the mirrors.) It also needs to be extremely stable, trying to keep up with the TS3 beta servers has been quite a lot of effort that I'd like to avoid in the future with other servers.

We would gladly like to see this. We currently already have a few minecraft servers running by giving users jailed SSH access but with it added to cPGS would be awesome. The server software is freely available and not bound by any licensing only clients.

Any idea if this will ever be implemented? I already have Java installed (Running a few servers). Minecraft server is freely available, I currently use /http://www.bukkit.org but the vanilla minecraft.net server can be found here - instructions, are on the bottom of this page.

You could perhaps just throw a warning to people attempting to install that they must have Java pre-installed for the game to work... maybe do some checks. Simple check of java version will do.

I imagine I can get it added with a caveat that it's up to the server admins to have java available and working correctly. When this might happen I'm not too sure, I'm trying to not add new game support until I hit the 1.0 release, every time I change something that affects the module system directly I have to go edit 40 different files in the same way, each new game adds another to the list and I'd like to avoid that as much as possible. Once 1.0 is out then it's a whirlwind of adding new games.

Hehe, I don't give ambiguous release dates because I know but want to play with your heads; I really don't know. No sooner than 6 months, no later than 3 years is about as far as I can narrow it down. The rate at which I get to work on it changes every few weeks it seems so just when I think I've got a steady pattern someone changes it on me. C'est la vie.

Well I know this is a long shot but don't forget ALOT of company's use your "script" and I'm sure ALOT more will use it when it's done and I know you probable don't want to ask for anything but I'm sure the faster it's done the happier they'll be now I don't know if your making money off of CPGS and you don't have to tell us but I'm sure if you put a donate bar somewhere just for you to make things easier on yourself e.g. expense, any developer help yada yada yada I'm sure no one is going to have a problem and it's not going to be required. I would even pitch in a couple hundred. Just interested because once you start adding more games CPGS and I personally would love you to add more games/etc, anyways just a suggestion i'll stop my blabbering and let you get back to your work..

Thanks Shane, the help is appreciated. I get a salary pay and the time spent on working on cPGS currently is chosen by my boss(es), normally I am working on other stuff related to the main WHM & cPanel product. I've gone from full time cPGS work to zero time cPGS work over the past several years, hence the erratic releases. I have no intention of setting up a donations page nor of working on cPGS in my limited free time at home (family called dibs, sorry.) I'm trying to get things in a system where I can steadily do a few cases every two weeks or so, that will get new versions and features out pretty quickly.
