    Default Problem starting source servers

when I click the 'Start' button, the button will say 'Starting Server..', and will go to the start server page, yet still have the Start button because the server never started. No matter how many times I click it, it will not start. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, everything.

Edit: Forgot to say this: It will work the first time after a fresh reinstall. But after I update the server, it won't start up again, and that is where the problems begin.

    Default Try to

    try to delete the process.

    [root@]: ps -U username
    [root@]: kill -9 process

    or

    [root@]: killall -u username

then try to restart the server, some times the process get stuck and cpanel cannot kill it.

    Regards

meow_mix - have you tried starting it from the command line after the first start to see if it can tell you what is wrong ? On the first start that does work, does it show srcds_run or srcds_i686 in the command line ? If it's srcds_run, do a forced self reinstall of cPGS in WHM in the cPGS section.

I have been having the same problem. I have reinstalled and tried everything that I can think of. It seems that there is a problem that is related to Valve. Been googling the problem. If you watch your /var/log/messages file you might see that the server is producing a

    'Segmentation fault (core dumped) $HL_CMD'

I have also noticed that the server will not crash after a reboot.

    Not sure what to do.

Step 1 - Stop all processes of the game server.
    Step 2 - Disable all mods/addons.
Step 3 - Update the server using SSH -verify_all (The control panel update does not work and never has)
Step 4 - Start the server via SSH.

This fixed it for me. It happens if you are loading currupt bin's for mods or game not compatible, Step 2 will fix this.
Also happenes if some models/sounds files are currupt, Step 3 will fix this.

It may be some conflict with your system's libraries, or perhaps it's not using the right binary when launching. If you put in a ticket I'll be glad to take a look, but if the problem exists from a clean steam install from the shell and not from within cPGS, the issue may be too complex for me to troubleshoot.

I downloaded a fresh install via the steam installer, and tried to ran it that way. Same error. I tried installing it via the cpanel installer, and ran it that way. Same error.

There are no mods installed. I deleted the .blob registry files. These are fresh installs that are failing. I ram a mem check to check for memory problems. Everything checked out.

I do not know what else to try.

Just an update. Valve released an update and it fixed the seg fault error / not starting problem. With those updates they created some more problems especially with TF2, but the starting problem is fixed.

Yeh I saw that on the valve mailing list. For reasons like this I am glad cPGS uses a dedicated package during install that is known to work, I only wish there was better compatibility between updates. I haven't seen a non-buggy update for months that I could make an updated package from, but I'll keep my eyes out for one
