    Default TF2 Update issue

    Hello,
auto update was turned on for the server, however the user did not specify a valid username and password, so I assume it failed (it was still running the old version after the update last night) So I had him add his username and password and run a manual steam update. Now, the server will not start and when I click update it says its updating CSS and not TF2. help is appreciated. Thanks.

This is what I get when I update:

    HalfLife Configuration Settings

    Updating Counter-Strike Source..

    sh: fox*5*gen*: command not found
    Missing argument for parameter '-username'

    Updating HalfLife2 Multiplayer..

    "sh: fox*5*gen*: command not found"
    "Missing argument for parameter '-username'"

Updating HalfLife2 Team Fortress : Source..

    "sh: fox*5*gen*: command not found"
    "Missing argument for parameter '-username'"

Updating HalfLife2 Day Of Defeat : Source..

    "Missing argument for parameter '-username'"
    "sh: fox*5*gen*: command not found"

    Update done.

Ok I fixed it it was the asterisks in the name. But, now after I updated I cannot start the server it keeps just loading the page with the start button. I check the log and it shows nothing.

try running the steam update manually.

Log in shell (SSH) as the user concerened and type the command:

[~/.gameservers/hl2_0]# ./steam -command update -game tf -dir .

make sure your in their .gameservers/hl2_0 directory.

well it seems it was an incomplete update causing the issue. I loaded IE and ran the update and for some reason it updated more. Then, it would run.

I often see updates from steam not be stable.. it's one reason t's hard to get a new hl/hl2 package out is that there is some bug with something in a lot of the daily updates in steam. Most likely they fixed whatever the issue was and the update got a good version when you pulled it down this last time.

I used IE last night and ran the update and it completed successfully and started. But, I couldn't find it in the game. I searched all of the servers and tried to connect to the IP and it showed the server was there running the game Team Fortress 2 - but it wouldn't let me join.

    What error did you get?

I had a similar issue... something along the lines of... validation error or something... cant remember... did the update manually via shell and it worked nps.
