What is changed in latest update for Release version?
Corrected problem with cpanellogd rotating system logs

As far I can see there is no more *.bkup files. So how are now logs processed?
I see web server still restarts every few hours even though I changed to recommended settings:
    process bandwidth every 8 hours
    process logs every 24 hours.

I don't know how to say?

They are in holiday and no one care.

    I use

    #/scripts/restartsrv_cpanellogd --stop
to stop cpanellogd, but cpanel always send me the email:
cpanellogd failed @ Sun Dec 27 06:08:28 2009. A restart was attempted automagically.
    Service Check Method: [check command]

Cmd Service Check Raw Output: cpanellogd is not running
I pay $35 per month but now lost more than $35 everyday because the stupid http restarting

how to fully stop cpanellogd? please help me?

Or the only solution is that we don't use cpanel anymore ?

Default I am having the same issue..

OK, I experienced the same issue with 11.25 that was installed by OLM on the dedicated server allocated to me and I created a cPanel ticket i.e..

    cPanel Ticket ID# 546497

And this was the response from cPanel team -

"Are these restarts causing problems? If not, I'd just ignore them. There are various reasons apache could be restarted, including modifications to accounts, stats processing, etc."

What kind of response is that? I created a ticket and they are saying me to ignore it if it's not causing any problems..lol.
It's a new server with just one default site and no customizations at all and even cPanel team noticed that as they had full access to my server for 2-3 days. And then some nice folk on webhostingtalk, told me that it's an issue with 11.25 version of CPanel/WHM and re-directed me to this thread which atleast gave me a better understanding of the issue and atleast some settings to tweak and reduce the impact.

C'mon guys, we are paying for this, we would expect better support from you then just ignoring our concerns.

    Still waiting for the fix.

    Thank You

This doesnt even solve the rotation log problem of cpanel. My error_log and other log fies are not rotated even if I have that setting in WHM.

We have made a change under WHM -> Statistics Software

At the bottom, clicked on "Statistics Schedule" and set the stats not to run during busy hours. You can also elect to make it not run at all if you want.

At least this resolves it temporarily until cPanel gets back.

Ok, I have now set both bandwidth processing and stats processing to 24 hours but it seems to have had no effect at all. To add to it I also still have the bug where children get locked in the G status after a graceful restart so every time apache does a graceful restart I lose a child slot, as you can imagine it doesn't take very long to hit MaxClients.

I had the same problem with this new version of cPanel (cPanel 11.25.0-R42399 - WHM 11.25.0 - X 3.9). My server was restarting every 17 minutes.

I fix this problem temporarily by disabling all rotation logs via WHM/cPanel (my problem was suexec_log), and I select all the check boxes in "Configure Statistic Process Time Schedule".

No more apache restarts (almost 5 days) after this steps.

If you disable cpanellogd in "Configure Statistic Process Time Schedule" you have to make a cron job to empty your bandwidth logs in /usr/local/apache/domlogs. My logs are filling very quickly 1GB in 12 hours (my server serve 250k daily visitors ) so be careful if you don't want to delete or empty your logs.

It really seems silly the solution for some people is to simply not do any stats processing. I'm not sure how exactly this new way of handling things is better. I think most people rather potentially lose some data then have constant restarts happening. It sounds though like this new way is not going to be changing. So even as a tweak settings option.

So I guess the choices are simple:

    1) Use 11.25 but no longer do any stats processing
    2) Hold onto 11.24 as long as possible
    3) Switch to another control panel

It really makes me wonder if new features and changes are thought through well. So they sound great but the real world repercussions are not thought through. So basically there is lack of input from people using the panel on daily basis in the environment it was intended for.

It's not just this change but there have been others over the past year or maybe longer that have caused just as many issues as they fixed. In some cases caused more issues than they fixed.

I'm going for option 2 myself and hoping that a better choice comes along soon... sure am glad I don't do auto-updates and do my homework first!

Not sure if I'm just lucky... but I began the upgrade two days ago, and while it was running I noticed this post and thought "oh great".

However, I haven't noticed anything really that out of the ordinary with graceful Apache restarts. I think they happen slightly more than before (at least the hours leading up to when I performed the upgrade), but otherwise they don't seem to be any hindrance.

We are still examining what options are available to retain the improved log processing while reducing the number of Apache restarts.

Here are some recommendations to help lessen the problems caused by the Apache restarts:

    1. Set the processing frequency for Logs and Bandwidth to be in sync.

For example if you process logs ever 8 hours and Bandwidth every 2, then change Bandwidth to 8.

    2. Once a day touch the files in /var/cpanel/lastrun.

The mtime of the files in /var/cpanel/lastrun are used, in conjunction with the files in /usr/local/apache/domlogs to determine whether an account needs processed during a specific interval. Processing of the Bandwidth logs is very fast. Processing of the domlogs is the slowest of the process. The processing is handled by AWStats, Analog, etc. The longer it takes to process the logs files for an account, the more out of sync the account becomes with the rest of the accounts.

Further an account that takes a long time to process will cause accounts processed afterward to become out of sync.

Over time the loss of synchronicity will cause cpanellogd to process one or more accounts every 15 minutes.

If an account is processed by cpanellogd, at least one graceful restart will be sent to Apache.

Keeping the mtime of the files in /var/cpanel/lastrun synchronized will cause cpanellogd to process all accounts during any one interval.
