Default Client host rejected: rDNS/DNS validation failed. Please setup matching DNS and rDNS

    Hi,

Am having a problem sending mails to craigslist.org. It is giving error like :
    --------
    host mxi4s.craigslist.org [66.150.243.11]: 554 <unknown[<myIPaddress>]>:
Client host rejected: rDNS/DNS validation failed. Please setup matching DNS and rDNS records:
    --------
For my server all the domains have dedicated IP address and exim's outgoing interface is configured on one IP address.

I set up reversedns/PTR for the domains IP as the domain name, but for exim's outgoing interface IP I will not be able to give rDNS as that domain name because other domains in the server is using the same outgoing interface.

I know it can be fixed by setting up rDNS for outgoing interface IP as the domain name but I want to know if there is any other workaround ???? I will really appreciate if anybody can help me

    Thanks
    Majoosh

No, there is no workaround. If your mailserver IP does not have rDNS, your email will be rejected by pretty much everybody. All shared IP's have a rDNS, all dial-up IP's have rDNS, this is not a problem. Just use something generic if you want, as long as it is actually valid and it points back to your machine itself. It by no means has to be one of your customers domain names, just get something even as generic as mailserver.outgoingmail.com, and point it to your server, make it your server hostname, and rDNS to it.

You specifically said it did not have rdns:

...but for exim's outgoing interface IP I will not be able to give rDNS...
Also, make sure every domain has that IP in its SPF records, very important!

Ok can someone explain what he did? I do not know what the "outgoing interface IP" is. I have tried everything. Added a new hostname of mailhost.mydomain.net and when I send myself an email to a yahoo.com account I get this:

    Received: from 74.86.xxx.xxx (EHLO mailhost.mydomain.net) (74.86.xxx.xxx)
I am starting to not like craigslist.org!

    Thanks,

    Scott
