    Default Email Accounts Missing !!!

    Hello all,

    For some reason I am not able to locate 6 email id's under a domain on my server.

    I was stunned and started to search the forum and I came to know that the email ids should exist in these 2 locations :-

    /home/{user}/mail/domain.com/{email_user directory}
    /home/{user}/etc/domain.com/passwd?

    In my case both the line do exist, But the passwd file is blank.

    There is nothing in it

    What could be the cause of the id's missing from the cPanel interface ?

    Any clues ? ideas ? resolution ?

    I would like to update all that I have managed to restore the accounts once again.

    All I had to do was recreate the email ids in the cPanel interface and now the mails are back again

    Thank you

    Hello

    What could be the cause of the id's missing from the cPanel interface ?
    This often happens when a user deletes the contents or files within their account's "etc" directory. It's important to remember that this directory is required, and all files within it should be retained.

    Thank you.

    Also, of note, it's important to have backups for all accounts on a machine either by using WHM > Backup > Configure Backup or by using another system. Virtual machines oftentimes have images that can be saved by the provider if you do not run the entire VM yourself. In the instance someone accidentally removes important data, you'd then have the backup of that account to restore it.
