    Default Email Deliver Being Delayed

I have a user who receives a lot of email from a mailing list and from that domain in general. Many of his messages are being delayed by minutes, sometimes hours. Looking at /var/log/exim_mainlog I see this type of message over and over:

2008-01-11 10:00:13 H=lists.xxxxxxx.org [xx.xx.xxx.xx] temporarily rejected connection in "connect" ACL: "Host is ratelimited (1.6/1h max:1.2)"

    Can I change this?

You'll need to create a whitelist. One example is below ...

Thanks. After I posted, I found in Exim Configuration an Access Lists section. One of them says:

"** Whitelist: Backup Mail Hosts (bypass all smtp ratelimits)"

I added the problem domain there. Would that not work?

Good question. I think the Exim Configuration Editor option may have been added to address the issue via a front-end (instead of having to edit the code directly).

According to the in-line documentation, the front-end under the Exim Configuration Editor requires you use the full host name (not the actual domain name or an IP).

Hosts can be used in this list (example: mx1.cpanel.net)
Ips cannot be used in this list (example: 127.0.0.1)
Ip Blocks cannot be used in this list (example: 192.168.0.1/24)

So from your initial post, you'd need to enter the value from H= lists.xxxxxxx.org

    Hope that helps -

Yes. Thanks. This seems to have worked. Before I added to whitelist I was getting lots of bounces in exim main_log. After I added it, none.

Of course I have also asked my client to have that server admin straighten out their configuration. That would be the best solution. I assume that's the issue. They aren'nt on a RBL that I can find.
