    Default email on seperate server

    Hello,

I have a customer who is hosting his website with someone else and wish us to take over his email hosting only.

i have access to his cpanel and my server has cpanel as well.

I am wondering the best solution for this.

One other thing is he has parked domain as well so email accounts for 2 domains

    Hello

You can create a new account for this domain name on your server. The account can be assigned the "x3mail" theme because it's only purpose will be email. Then, update the "A" record for "mail" and "MX" records for this domain name at it's DNS hosting provider so that the records point to your server.

    Thank you.

Now according to your last post

i created abc.com.au in my server edited the DNS zone NS pointed to his hosting provider
and created mail.abc.com.au A record in his domain manager pointing to us

Did you edit the MX record to change it to mail.abc.com.au as well in that DNS zone? Did he ensure that his hosting provider also has the MX set to mail.abc.com.au and the A record for mail.abc.com.au pointed to your machine? If so, then it would work with that setup.

Next, if abc.com is parked and will have the same configuration where it is just email only, it would be setup exactly the same way for the DNS zones on both your machine and the hosting provider's nameservers.

Parking a domain hasn't any impact at all on what you are trying to do. If it is to be configured the same with only the emails being handled by your machine, then the DNS records need to be setup the same way. Parked domains can have email accounts. Parked domains do have DNS zones. There's no difference between a parked domain and a regular domain in regards to anything besides the parked domain's Apache entry being a ServerAlias.
