exim configuration editor

I was trying to modify the virtual_address_pipe transport via WHM editor since I need to add an envelope_to_add directive there.

Unfortunately I can't modify this section, only add the transport again. This result in an error, exim is complaining about 2 transports with the same name.

Now I can edit the exim.conf manually. But then I run into problems if CPanel updates exim.conf and overwrites my manual mod.

Is there any way to make the modification via configuration editor so it does not get overwritten?

Yes, you can "chattr" the exim.conf such that it never gets overwritten, chattr is used for changing the attributes of files.

Here's the command that needs to be executed from within SSH as root:

chattr +aui /etc/exim.conf

Once done, the exim configuration file will be immutable...

You mention two different methods of editing the configuration: using the configuration editor vs. editing exim.conf manually.

If you edit the file manually, even with +i, it will be overwritten by cPanel/WHM updates.

If you edit the file via the configuration editor in WHM, your changes will be preserved.

I would like to go with the editor, unfortunately I don't see a way to implement the needed modification.

The manual way is a workaround only.
