    Default Heavy Roundcube

I've noticed that sometimes our server get's flooded by spammers on the webmail service, but we don't know who, since the roundcube runs under the cpanel-roundcube user.

It would be good that roundcube runs as cgi under the user that's sending emails, so we can see if there's something wrong with it.

Bump, roundcube already runs on php-cgi as cpanel-roundcube, it cannot be that hard to make it run as the users id, is it ?

One of our servers is running freebsd 6.2 and often it will slow to a crawl. If I go to the console and do a TOP I find roundcube eating the machine. If I leave it alone for a few minutes it keeps running, but I cannot tell if its looping or progressing in doing something. Today that machine hung completely after a while and had to be rebooted.

I usually end up seeing hours of CPU time used up, each taking up 1 CPU most of the time. I had 3 processes once taking 100% of each CPU.

I usually fix this by doing a...

    killall -9 php-cgi

That will break the running roundubes, but with an F5 it'll all be working again. Althogh this only happens in some of our servers not on all, so I think it would be good to see if it's some spamming user / bot that does it.

We are currently testing a solution where the RoundCube sessions run as the account user rather than the general 'cpanelroundcube' user. Based upon the results of the testing we will investigate having the other webmail clients run as the account user also.

Any news about it ? I still have our webserver being overloaded with cpanel roundcube processes:

    Code:
    32022 198.24	0.31	0.0
    Top Process	%CPU 99.8	/var/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/php -c /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/etc/roundcube /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/roundcube/index.php

It's a cPanel 11.25 feature. The change to having the RoundCube process owned by the cPanel account user is an optional feature upgrade in cPanel 11.25. More information will be available in the forth-coming release notes and other cPanel 11.25 documentation.

Let me see if I got this; RoundCube will be running by default on the user account whom is sending an e-mail, and «if i want to» it can be switched to run as the cpanel-roundcube account like it does now ?

I hope that's it because that would be great

I personally think @mail have thought they could overtake us. Lets buy them out. Thats what i think. Roundcube is a real competitor when we get pop3 support. DONT SELL! @mail will flood roundcube with features that will over crowd it and slow it down and people will leave.

Upon upgrading to cPanel 11.25 the roundcube webmail process will still be owned by the cpanelroundcube user ( usually appears in the process table as cpanelro ).

Changing the roundcube process to being owned by the user account is an elective process. There is no, and will be no, support for returning the process to cpanelroundcube ownership. The process ownership change is server-wide. More information will be available in our documentation before cPanel 11.25 is published.

I think that @Mail is faster, but the way it looks, and feels is what get me down. I have as I get it free with one of my host, I don't use it any more.

P.S. Why is this in News and Announcements?

We are releasing an enhancement for Roundcube that will resolve the high CPU usage issue. You can read more about this at:

I am closing this thread, but please feel welcome to continue discussion about Roundcube on the thread I just mentioned.
