Default how to make sure mail not saved on server ?

I'm seeing alot of our users that have pop3 accounts and are downloading regularly ... the server is saving a copy of the mails even after they've been downloaded and aside from the obvious storage issues, we're getting barraged with support for mailbox full messages ...

How can we make sure no emails are saved after they are downloaded via pop3 by default ?

    Thanks in advance

You can't really because of the way the POP3 protocol works. The best you could do is to see if you can find a script that deletes emails that have been in the cur/ directory longer than X days. However, doing that, you still might delete email that hasn't been properly retrieved.

The best you could probably do is to use something like cmm:

When and if you find full mailboxes inform the client that they need to POP all the mail or you'll remove the mailbox as it's apparently not being used.

Some email clients, like outlook, can be configured to download mail via pop and keep a copy on the server for X days, or until the email is deleted by the user. You might want to make sure they aren't doing that?
