Default How to move emails from old server to new cPanel server?

I need advice on how to go about moving company emails from an old server to our new VPS with cPanel. This is the situation:

Our old server with Web Host A, currently has all our company emails hosted. It is a mbox system with 53 users and 74 email addresses (some users have multiple email addresses). Users check their email using one of the following: Outlook, Thunderbird, Entourage, Webmail. Some of these are setup using POP and some with IMAP.

Our new server with Web Host B is a VPS with cPanel and WHM and has a maildir system.

How do I go about transferring all the emails to the new server, in the new format? At what point in the process will I transfer the domain name?

    Hi,

Is your web host A a cpanel / whm server?

You may find these threads useful:

If the old server is buggy and fussy, Horde may give problems.
Also, the default mail size pulling limit is 4MB per mail in Horde. You may want to increase that.

Also, there is already an open thread to Request for a CPanel Supported option to do this.

Do add a +1 to it, if you think it should be implemented.

Thank you for the reply ruzbehraja, but no, my old server does not have cPanel/WHM installed. That's the part that's making this so difficult that I needed help with. I'm going from a non-cPanel/WHM server with an mbox system to a cPanel/WHM server with a maildir system.

Right now I'm just thinking of having everyone archive their emails locally in Outlook and then transfer the domain and setup the emails again. Would that be my best option?

You may want to go through the links that i have sent you.

The horde fetchmail option maybe the easiest.

Another option maybe to transfer the mbox files in the same tree structure and then convert to maildir, but i am not sure of it working. You may want to try it out with only 1 account.

Since you also are hoping that there was a cpanel supported option, adding your support to the feature request thread would also be useful to others in future.

Do remember, when you are switching the mails or changing to maildir, all your POP users will get repeat mails of all mails that are on the server.

Even though they may have been read, the mails will be re-downloaded. It can get a bit irritating for a user with GB's of mail.

    Just a "heads up".
