    Default messages stuck in queue

    Hi there,

    My server is a VPS with 10 IPs and 10 domains. It sends around 1k emails per hour, sometimes 2-3k during peak hours.

    I am finding there is always mail in the queue and when i check the mail queue manager I get a message like this

    "There are currently 1759 messages in the mail queue."

    How long will all the messages stay here for? Will they eventually send or be deleted? Is this a resource issue with the VPS or is there something I need to change in the config?

    Thanks

    Dave

    They can be stuck for various reasons (spam, bad addresses, recipient's server down, ip blacklisted, etc). You will have to check the logs to see why they are not going through.

    The Exim Configuration Editor in WHM shows the following default retry settings (for failed messages):
    This single retry rule applies to all domains and all errors. It specifies
    retries every 15 minutes for 2 hours, then increasing retry intervals,
    starting at 1 hour and increasing each time by a factor of 1.5, up to 16
    hours, then retries every 8 hours until 4 days have passed since the first
    failed delivery.
    The short answer thus, is that messages that cannot be delivered will remain in your queue for 4 days.

    Is there a way to change it from

    * * F,2h,15m; G,16h,1h,1.5; F,4d,8h

    to just

    * * F,2h,15m;

    and then have it store the frozen emails somewhere to be downloaded?

    in the editor i see one box above and one below this entry
    * * F,2h,15m; G,16h,1h,1.5; F,4d,8h

    but I cant seem to edit it?

    Also I now see the following

    There are currently 9136 messages in the mail queue.

    A lot of these are ill written addresses such as hoymail.com aool.com etc.

    I see some have been in the queue for 5 days and are still not being marked as frozen and deleted from the queue? Why is this? Is there a way I can make them go to frozen and be saved elsewhere after just 1 day of retries?
